Sometimes we get to be in storms that are not of our doing. Because of that, I modified the saying a little, “not my circus, not my monkeys…” I may be in the audience at the circus, no monkeys on my lap.
The picture on this post was taken in Playa del Carmen when hurricane Milton hit Florida. We didn’t get any hurricane effects, except for a beautiful rain storm, I got to witness all the lightening, thunder and rain. But I didn’t get to be in the hurricane.
Sometimes in life people will do things and you will be the recipient of it. The choice is simple, take it personal and join their circus, or see it for what it is, not about you at all, it is all about where they are in life at the moment.
Nothing is ever personal, nothing is an attack on you that calls for you to defend yourself. It might sound and feel like one, but it isn’t. Those that hurt people are the ones hurting the most, keep that in mind.
Everything is simply because we are emotional beings, and we get hurt if we choose to. Amazing what we allow ourselves to receive and give in a moment of frustration, anger, hurt, offense and all the other emotions that require a reaction, where we could act instead, if we thought it through.
So, here is a reminder. We don’t have to accept every, better yet, any invitation to an argument. We can sit them out.
The circus might be in town and somehow you got pulled into the audience, but the monkeys are not on your lap. No need to participate.
If you can’t control/change whatever is happening, it shouldn’t be taking space in your mind and heart.
Life becomes much better and you create your own journey. Some circus attendance might be in your future, but you don’t have to be in the show.
