Wayne Dyer has said to have a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing. He is correct. We all have perspectives and those perspectives come from having traveled different journeys, with different people and experiences. What might traumatize someone might sound like a walk in the park to someone else because their trauma threshold is so much higher.
There are many ways of living and surviving. We all choose what is familiar and seems safe for ourselves. A long time ago as I was talking with friends, someone said that if we all were to put our problems on the table and were asked to choose one, the majority would chose their own problem, because of its familiarity and “knowing” what to expect from it. Sad, but we don’t like taking chances, going out of out comfort zone or trying something new.
I used to be rigid and very letter of the law, because I am a literal person…to a fault. That was a tough change for me. To start having a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing. The more we learn, the more we realize how little we know. The more we look, we see things differently because of the way we look at things, from different perspectives and hopefully with a kinder, more understanding heart. As I started to be open to everything, I felt regret for many things in the past, unfortunately, the past I cannot change, I can only create a different present and a better future.
Being open opens the possibilities and doors I didn’t know existed, I simply wasn’t open to it, I couldn’t see what I was not open to seeing. Attachment to outcome is debilitating and a very frustrating way of life. It brings lots of disappointments, resentment and hurt. Being open to everything attached to nothing opens the mind and heart to all the beautiful things we somehow missed out on as we are closed minded, we can’t see beyond what we are open to.
Give it a shot. Pick one thing that you are 100% sure that your way is the very best way and will always be. See if there are other ways of getting it done and try it out. See what you think, you may be pleasantly surprised!
